A Spoiler-Free Review of Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson

Yes, it’s everything you’ve hoped for and more! Go read it immediately. πŸ™‚

I could end the review right there, but if you insist on staying here at your computer and not going out to immediately purchase and devour this book, I suppose I must tell you a bit more about its awesomeness so thatΒ then you’ll go out and immediately purchase and devour this book (of course, read the first one first. It would just be silly to do otherwise).

Oftentimes, the second book in a series is kind of a let down. The plot drags just a bit and the characters we’ve fallen in love with are changing in ways we’re not always sure we like. It can be tough, that second book.

Happily, I did not feel that way at all about this one. It was delightful right from the very first page (which slightly surprised me – I was gearing up for a long prologue and/or prelude with characters I didn’t know, but we hopped right in with someone I recognized – awesome!).

I started the book the moment in got to my kindle – having finished a reread of Way of Kings just moments earlier. This worked out awesomely, since that was like 2 or 3 in the afternoon my time, and midnight in the US. Meaning I was fully awake and ready to go! And from the moment I started it I got almost nothing else done for days. I mean, I was waking up earlier, going to bed later, neglecting my own work, leaving the dishes, ordering food – anything I could do to buy myself a few more minutes of reading. It was truly amazing. πŸ™‚

This is just how I like my fantasy novels. Big, bold, and crazy. With no weird talking animals or anything. (Although, I guess the spren talk, but they’re cooler than animals). The whole plot is so intricate but the author does aΒ fantastic job at pulling it all together.

Basically, I already want to jump in and reread it. So. . . I will. πŸ™‚ That’s the advantage really of being a fantasy writer. I can call rereading books like this ‘research’ or ‘learning time’ – although I’ll be honest – that’s not the real reason. πŸ˜‰ I just want more of this story, more more more!!

I wish I could tell you more about how awesome it is, but that would require me giving away a lot of the story. If you’ve already read it and would like some serious gushing, let me direct you to my goodreads review, where there are spoilers aplenty and many ravings about the awesomeness of this book. πŸ™‚

Anyone else read it yet???
